Water is everywhere in Delhi, 46 years of record rain
New Delhi: It started raining late on Friday night and continued on Saturday morning as well. Monsoon rains in Delhi this year have broken a 46-year-old record.
This is the first time since 2010 that the rainfall level in the national capital has crossed 1000 mm. The situation of heavy rain was such that even at Indira Gandhi Airport, several feet of water were flooded.
ANI has clearly seen the pictures of the planes standing between several feet of water on the runway.
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rain in the next few hours for Delhi and NCR region. In the midst of strong thunder and strong winds, the mercury has also dropped by 3 to 4 degrees. However, in many areas including Madhu Vihar, people were facing difficulties due to waterlogging.
The Meteorological Department has forecast rain to continue for several hours in most areas of NCR including Delhi Weather, Noida, Greater Noida. People have felt relief due to the sharp drop in temperature in Delhi and NCR.
The Meteorological Department had already predicted that 10 percent more rain could be seen this time in September. Whereas in August up to 24 percent less rain has been recorded. The Meteorological Department has estimated that apart from Delhi, there was heavy rain for several hours in Noida, Greater, Ghaziabad, Hindon Airbase, Loni, Dadri in UP. In Haryana too, most of the districts including Panipat, Sonipat, Jhajjar witnessed heavy rains in the morning.
The same sight was observed in many areas of Rajasthan as well. In West UP, there has been heavy rain in all the areas like Muzaffarnagar, Dibai, Aligarh, Baraut, Baghpat. Due to this the mercury has dropped rapidly. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the lowest rainfall in 12 years occurred in August. In August this year 24 percent less rain has been recorded.
The department says that two rounds of weak monsoon were seen in the country between 9 to 16 August and 23 to 27 August. But in August 2021, there was a decrease in average rainfall, which has been recorded since 2009 i.e. in the last 12 years. In the last 19 years since the year 2002, the month of August this year has recorded the lowest rainfall. Actually, the Southwest Monsoon usually arrives in the country on 1st June and remains active till 30th September.
There was 10 percent more rain in June. Rainfall in July and August was 7 and 24 per cent respectively. Of the four meteorological divisions in the country, central India recorded 39 per cent less rainfall. A large area is included in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, (Maharashtra, Gujarat) Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Whereas North-West India, in which North India recorded 30 percent less rain.
