SC refuses to plea seeking postponement of NEET PG exam
The Supreme Court on Monday declined to entertain a plea seeking postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) post-graduate exam scheduled for March 5, 2022.
A bench of Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Dipankar Datta, after hearing the plea of 17 doctors, said that “we will do the best we can in the circumstances saying nothing. Let things be as they are. It's a very difficult decision."

The petitioners had argued that the National Board of Examinations (NBE) had amended the eligibility criteria twice without prior consultation with the state medical bodies, due to which the candidates did not get enough time to prepare after the completion of their internship.

Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Centre, said that 2,09,029 candidates have applied for the exam and most of them would have already made their travel arrangements. Their admit cards are to be issued on Monday (February 27), they said, adding that any postponement at this stage would bring undue inconvenience to them.
He also pointed out that 10 of the petitioners had completed their internship last year or even earlier and hence cannot claim that they had less time for preparation.
The ASG said that the counseling for the session 2023-24 will start from July 15, 2023 and therefore, around 98 per cent of the participating doctors will complete their internship by the time the counseling for NEET PG (2023-24) starts.

Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, appearing for the petitioners, however, said that logically it does not make sense that they are going to conduct counseling for those who finish NEET PG after August 11.
But the court pointed out that the Center had said that those who complete their internship after July 15 and are eligible to participate in the counseling process will be provisionally allowed to participate in the counseling and will be decided on a case-to-case basis. will be settled on the basis ,
