New Delhi: Just before the executive meeting in Congress, once again there is a situation of confusion about the post of president. Amid the demand for radical changes that are gaining momentum in the party, interim president Sonia Gandhi has said that I have completed one year term in the post of president. Now Congress leaders choose their new president.
After Sonia's statement, the situation has again become more or less the same as it was a year ago. Then Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post of president. Even then the party was seen to be divided into two factions and it remains the same today.
But then and now the situation is different. Then Rahul Gandhi left the post, taking responsibility for the 2019 election defeat. Sonia Gandhi has spoken out of leaving the post due to the demand for a big change.
Significantly, 23 big leaders of Congress had demanded a big change from top to bottom in the letter written to Sonia Gandhi. In a letter to Sonia, the leaders had also raised questions that nothing would happen other than the Speaker's address.
The leaders who have signed this letter include five former chief ministers and several members of the executive. The letter was also signed by Jitin Prasad, Mukul Wasnik, while these leaders are also members of the Congress Working Committee. The executive meeting is to be held on 24 August. In such a situation, if Sonia Gandhi resigns from the post of President, then there will be a challenge to choose a new president in front of the executive.
